THE DANCE SCHOOL

The Vanessa Golborn School of Dance in Hampshire is a well established dance school, running classes in Classical Ballet (RAD syllabus), Modern, Tap, Jazz and Street (ISTD Syllabus). Since Vanessa started the school in 1993 it has grown from strength to strength, now boasting over 250 students. We cater for children from 3 years old through teenagers to adults and aim to provide a supportive environment where students are taught to a very high standard. Students looking for serious dance training as well as those looking to keep fit and have fun are all welcome.

Classes are held all day Saturday, and Monday to Friday after school hours. Some adult classes also run during the day. The school timetable is closely aligned with the local school terms. All classes run at Alton Sports Centre in their purpose built dance studios.

EVENTS

Every two years we produce a school show held at a professional theatre, incorporating over 200 dancers from the school. In July 2011 we performed for two weekends at the Anvil Theatre Basingstoke presenting our show 'Got It Covered'. We produced 'Sounds of the Small Screen' at the same theatre in July 2009. Each autumn term we run a choreographic competition in Alton. We also perform and take part in numerous charity events and our performance team are for hire for other events.

CLASSES
Ballet (RAD syllabus)

Pre-school - The school caters for pre-school children from the age of approx 3yrs. These classes are dedicated to creating fun classes where the ‘work’ is hidden within the enjoyment. Children learn the foundations of co-ordination, technique, musicality and expression.

Exams are not compulsory but many students gain a sense of achievement and confidence from taking these exams, as well as improving their dancing by the hard work they put in to attain the high RAD standards.

Vocational examinations - Students who show extraordinary talent and commitment to dance may be considered for professional vocational exams in preparation for a career in dance.

Modern and Tap (ISTD Syllabus)

Grades - Classes begin with children from approx 5yrs working through the ISTD grades from Primary to grade 6
