From tracking your swim to competing in competitions, it's hard not to love a dip in the pool with SWIMTAG®
SWIMTAG, created by 222 Sports Limited, is a training aid that records the number of lengths completed, split times, stroke rate and stroke type allowing users to set personal goals and follow exclusive training plans. They can also engage with other swimmers through challenges, competitions and via social networking.
In addition, the technology will provide Places for People Leisure with an interesting insight into pool usage. The leisure centre operator will be able to monitor who is swimming, when, and how often.
Susan Rosetto, Group Health and Wellbeing Manager at Places for People Leisure, comments: “We are pleased that, with the support of Sport England and the Amateur Swimming Association, we have been able to introduce the SWIMTAG technology into three of our leisure centres.
Being able to monitor individual performance, set training programmes and compete with others is a key motivational tool for swimmers.
“Technology such as this is key to educating local communities on the benefit of physical activity; just half an hour in the pool can burn around 300 calories. Regular swimming and water based activities can help with weight control, cardiovascular fitness, muscle tone, posture and flexibility.”
SWIMTAG will be available to all Swim4Health members at Places for People Leisure’s Strode site. The Swim4Health initiative was first launched in 2010 in partnership with Sport England and the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) to promote the health and fitness benefits of swimming and offer an ‘aquatic alternative’ to the gym.
