You can learn to swim at any age.

For those wanting to start swimming we offer classes for all age groups from parent & baby through to adults.  All of our lessons are taught by qualified instructors who will help to develop confidence both in and around the water.

Are you looking for a great way to bond with a little one? Or do you want to find a fun new activity for both yourself and your little ones that will keep you active and teach you all an essential life skill?

If so we have the perfect activity – swimming lessons.

Being able to swim is a important life skill for everyone to learn. Once you're able to swim you can enjoy regular visits to the pool during term time as well as holiday fun with friends both in the UK and abroad.

Across all of the pools we manage, over 63,000 children are learning to swim each week, all gaining a valuable life skill. And it doesn't just stop there, we provide a fantastic online tool for parents to monitor their child's progress each week and move their child to a new class when they’re ready.

Whether it's building water confidence in babies and toddlers or teaching grandparents how to swim, we have something for everyone. If you’d like to learn more about our learn to swim programme, then do give us a call on 01494 688 100.

Swimming is a fantastic way to enjoy family time and our pools offer a range of sessions and activities for you all to enjoy splashing around together. Take a look at our timetables online today and plan your next family visit.

How does the programme works?

Our lessons are delivered under our very own swimming lesson team and follow the Amateur Swimming Association's (ASA), Learn to Swim framework. This uses fun and games to take children from the first splash to full competence in the pool and will ultimately help your child develop confidence in the water. The ASA's Learn to Swim Programme guides your child through ten clearly defined stages, and there is a foundation level to get babies as young as six-months-old started. All of the ASA's Learn to Swim Programme is supported by the Kellogg's ASA Awards scheme.

Adult Lessons

If you have a fear of the water, can’t get your face wet or panic just thinking about the deep end then it’s easy to think swimming is not for you.

But if you learn to swim you can have fun in the water with your friends, children and grandchildren. You can also make a splash in the water while on holiday.

The important thing to know is that you are not alone. One in five adults across the country can't swim - but it's never too late to learn. Our pool offers adult classes in a friendly and supportive environment.

If you are unsure about starting lessons, ask if you can watch a class or two to get a better idea of whether it's for you, or ask to speak with one of the teachers.

Most lessons take things at a slow pace - starting off with teaching you to how to stand up and regain your feet, float and swim without fear before being taught specific strokes.

Reflecting our commitment to continuously improving the delivery of swimming lessons, we have invested in the latest technology to record the performance of children during their lessons.

Through an internet based Home Portal parents/guardians will be able to access information about your child’s swimming lessons including:

  • Your child’s performance against the key competencies for their course level E.g. Swim 100m efficient backstroke.

  • A rating from the teacher on how they are doing against this competency E.g. Needs practice / Fair / Good

  • Notification of when your child is ready to move up a level and the ability to choose from the available times for your child to move into

  • Record of all assessments and pass dates for each level

September 2015

"Im in my early 60s,overweight and not confident in the water, so my daughter thought it was about time I learnt to swim properly. I started in January and told the instructor you would not get me to swim on my back. In July I managed it. Carla (the instructor) was friendly and supportive and the group soon bonded. I certainly feel more confident and would thoroughly recommend taking the plunge."

Jean from Prestwood

“In a single term of lessons I have gone from being barely able to a really confident swimmer. Great classes, great teacher, really nice people and a friendly relaxed atmosphere.”

Charlie from High Wycombe

"On returning to swimming after 20yrs I found that I was struggling with both my stroke and speed so I decided to have some swimming lessons.I was immediately put at ease by Carla with her easy going approachable nature she teaches everyone as adults and not like children, making everyone want to learn more and swim better. The class is great and even though we all have different experience levels, Carla adapts the lessons to suit everyone's needs without anyone feeling less able, in fact it makes us want to work harder! With simple body strengthening and breathing exercises using floats and timed lengths, my speed, stroke and fitness have improved enormously."

Gail (Advanced Class)

My children have been swimming at Wycombe sports centre for the last 4 years and we have loved the support they have received from all the teachers during the stages they have passed through. The lessons have always been fun and well structured. The boys particularly enjoy using flippers in their current classes.
