Colin Jackson CBE Celebrates At Gosport Leisure Centre

On Saturday, Colin Jackson CBE joined local councillors and residents to celebrate the launch of the all new £7.8 million Gosport Leisure Centre, taking a tour of the facilities on offer and speaking about the importance of an active lifestyle.

Last year’s amazing summer of sport clearly inspired local people and families to become more active as the centre is already proving incredibly popular. In fact, it is expected to have in excess of 500,000 users within a year, in contrast to the old centre’s 150,000.

The Leader of Gosport Borough Council, Councillor Mark Hook, said on Saturday: “The excellent new facilities at Gosport Leisure Centre have allowed local residents to enjoy top quality sports and fitness facilities on their doorstep. We are really pleased that Colin could be part of this special day as he shares our passion for encouraging people to take up a more active lifestyle.”

Colin Jackson CBE commented during a tour of the facilities: “I drove into Gosport today and saw the shiny new leisure centre and thought YES – this is what we need! Facilities like this are where the next generation of sporting superstars will be discovered, and where local people will come together to enjoy an active lifestyle, socialise and become strong communities again.”

Facilities inside the all new Gosport Leisure Centre include a 25m swimming pool and smaller learner pool, sauna and steam room, health and fitness studio, dance studio and a sports hall for badminton, basketball, volleyball, netball and more. Outside facilities include eight 5 a-side football pitch, one 7 a-side synthetic football pitch and two grass mini-soccer pitches.

Stuart Urquhart, General Manager of Gosport Leisure Centre, says: “My team is really enjoying welcoming a wide range of people from the area into our brand new facility. We love spreading the word about all of the fitness benefits that come with an active lifestyle and we are confident that this year our customer base will continue to grow and grow!”

Users can choose between pay and play commitment-free options or low cost gym membership starting from just £18.99 a month per person. All inclusive family memberships are also available, offering all the benefits for adults plus swimming and fun activity classes for children under 16.
