Donna Bristoll at Places for People Leisure wins IQL Trainer Assessor of the Year Award

The heroes of water safety have been celebrated at the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) and IQL UK Awards 2016 for their commitment to drowning prevention.

This year’s ceremony was held at Staverton Park in Daventry with the awards presented by Di Steer, CEO of RLSS UK, RLSS UK President Peter Moyes and Martin Symcox, Director of IQL UK and Water Safety Management.

“There is some fantastic water safety work going on in swimming pools across the UK and the awards are a great opportunity to give operators and individuals the recognition they deserve for the vital role they play in keeping the public safe. The judges were impressed with the calibre of entries and we’d like to congratulate all winners of this year’s awards including Places for People Leisure,” said Martin Symcox.

The annual awards recognise and celebrate the training and development of lifeguards and the contribution that centres make to water safety and drowning prevention in their local communities. This year Donna Bristoll from Places for People Leisure won ‘Trainer Assessor of the Year Award’ for her contribution to training and mentoring individuals. Over the past year Donna has assessed in excess of 20 assessments and mentored a further 10 probationary Trainer Assessors through assessments. She’s supported 5 NRASTC courses, delivered 8 AED courses and delivered training to over 200 individuals through her delivery of NPLQ, AED and ongoing training.

Andy Read, Places for People Leisure’s Safety and Quest Manager, said “Safety is our utmost priority and we invest heavily within our people to ensure that our leisure centres offer an enjoyable and above all, safe environment to encourage participation by all. I’m very pleased that Donna has been recognised for her achievements as her passion and commitment has helped to deliver exceptionally high training standards across the Places for People Leisure Group”.

Places for People Leisure were also finalists in the Multi-site (15+) ATC of the year award and two teams were also finalists for ‘Lifeguard Team of the Year’.
