New state of the art leisure facilities for Godalming and Gosport
Waverley Council and Gosport Borough Council have awarded contracts to DC Leisure to manage brand new leisure facilities in Godalming and Gosport.
This year, in the South of England, DC Leisure has signed contracts for two exciting new redevelopment projects; the new £6 million Godalming Leisure Centre, located on the edge of the Broadwater Park, and the £7.8 million Gosport Leisure Centre which will replace the old and outdated Holbrook Recreation Centre.
Godalming Leisure Centre opened to the public on 30th July 2012 and the new facilities now include a cafe, a 25 metre swimming pool, learner pool, a large fitness studio which can be divided into two and a state-of-the-art gym with 60 pieces of cardio-vascular and resistance training equipment. DC Leisure hopes to sign up 2,000 fitness members to the new Godalming Leisure Centre by the end of this year.
Building work is well under way at Gosport Leisure Centre and the contractors, Willmott Dixon, have already completed the 5 a-side football centre along with the first phase of the car parking. As well as the eight 5 a-side and one 7 a-side synthetic football pitches, the new leisure facilities include a 25 metre swimming pool, a smaller learner pool, sauna and steam room, a 70 station health and fitness studio, dance studio, crèche and soft play area and a sports hall suitable for badminton, basketball, volleyball and netball. Once the leisure facilities have been completed the next phase of the development will progress with the construction of a new pub / restaurant by Marston’s Brewery and a 60 bed Premier Inn hotel.
Leader of Gosport Borough Council, Councillor Mark Hook, says: “DC Leisure have a successful track record in bringing high quality leisure facilities to a wide range of people within local communities. We are pleased to be working with them as part of a long term partnership.”
Commenting on the 15 year partnership with Waverley Council, Peter Kirkham, Development Director for DC Leisure says: “Godalming Leisure Centre has been a really exciting project for us and it’s fantastic to see the end results now that the centre is up and running. We believe that facilities such as this will play a key role in sporting legacy post London 2012. We hope to inspire thousands across the UK to adopt healthier, more active lifestyles.”
