Places for People win coveted ‘Leisure Operator of the Year' Award for the third year
It was a momentous night for the Places for People team, when they received the highly sought after ‘Leisure Operator of the Year’ award at the ukactive Flame Awards 2015. The win for the PfP team was particularly significant, as it was the third year in a row that the social enterprise has received the prestigious honour.
Commenting on the award win, Sandra Dodd Chief Executive of Places for People Leisure, said: “Places for People are delighted to receive the ukactive award as Leisure Centre Operator of the Year for 2015. To receive this award for 3 years running is a great reflection on the amazing commitment of all our staff and the work they do in our facilities and with our many local authority partners. We are privileged to play a key role in getting our communities more active and healthy and to have this acknowledged by our sector is great news. We remain committed to the highest levels of quality and inspired to create active places and healthy people.
“Working with 35 local authorities, we attract over 30 million visits each year. We have built 13 new leisure centres over the past seven years and most importantly we are improving the health and wellbeing of the local communities we serve by getting them more active, more often.
“We realise that the sector is changing rapidly with many challenges and opportunities facing us. This award will spur us on even more to continue to find different ways to engage with even more people, enhance their lives, and provide a great service to those already using our facilities.”
The awards ceremony, sponsored by Matrix Fitness, was held in conjunction with the annual Flame Conference, which took place at Telford International Centre. There were 14 award categories presented throughout the evening, designed to recognise the suppliers, facilities, operators, health practitioners, corporations and educational institutes that have demonstrated outstanding standards over the past 12 months.
Places for People also took home the award for Leisure Centre of the Year (multi-use) for their centre in Maltby, up against two of their fellow PfP finalist centres at Gosport and William Gregg VC. The social enterprise were also finalists in the Go Green category, with Fakenham Sports & Fitness Centre also a finalist in the Leisure Centre of the Year (Streamline) category.
“After months of detailed assessments the winners have finally been rewarded with their Flame Awards. They are extremely worthy winners,” Steven Ward, Executive Director, ukactive commented. “The assessment process has been established as exceptionally rigorous and this year it was even tougher, so Places for People should be very proud of what they have achieved.”
