Places for People Leisure Celebrate National Fitness Day

National Fitness Day, one of the biggest annual celebrations of physical activity in the UK took place on Wednesday 7th September.

As part of ukactive’s National Fitness Day, which is partnered by Argos, thousands of leisure centres, gyms, clubs, parks and ukactive members opened their doors to encourage people to participate in physical activity and make the day one of the most active days of the year!

The day was a huge success with over 18,000 events held across 5,873 venues and in excess of 100,000 people participating. In honour of this year’s National Fitness Day Places for People Leisure challenged its 113 facilities to get into the spirit and join one of the largest squat challenges at Places for People Leisure!

During the day our site teams rose to the challenge; encouraging its leisure centre customers to perform at least 10 squats and take part in other various activities throughout the day to mark the occasion. In total 9,366 people took part across the leisure group which equated to a whopping 122,740 squats! Head office even got involved performing 583 squats of their own!

See the highlights from the day in the video below and well done to our top performing site, Dorking Leisure Centre, managed on behalf of Mole Valley District Council who squatted an impressive 13,400 times!
