Places for People Leisure crowned Leisure Centre Operator of the Year 2014

It was celebrations all round at the ukactive FLAME awards when we were announced as winners of the prestigious Leisure Centre Operator of the Year 2014 Award.

The title recognises our success in achieving outstanding operating standards and commitment to delivering an unmatched customer experience for each and every user.

The win is especially significant as it’s our first award since rebranding as Places for People Leisure in April. Formerly as DC Leisure, we were winner of the title three times.

We’ve spent 24 years establishing our reputation as arguably the most respected leisure management provider in the UK. This award highlights what we offer as a community-minded organisation bursting with passion and enthusiasm to get communities more physically active.

We also brought home the Multi-use Leisure Centre of the Year award won by William Gregg VC Leisure Centre in Derbyshire.  A wonderful achievement for the staff, the customers  and for our local authority partner, Amber Valley Borough Council.

The team in attendance at the ceremony collected the awards on behalf of all Places for People Leisure staff.  Each and every employee works to deliver outstanding customer service and provide high quality facilities for the communities we serve.

We would like to thank every local authority we are proud to work with, every partner and staff member and of course all our customers  for the incredible support they have given us over the last successful year.

We currently partner with 35 local authorities, managing over 110 leisure centres across England. Our sites are attracting over 25 million visits each year and in the past eight years we are proud to say we have built 12 new leisure facilities for local communities.

In recent months our new partnerships with a range of local authorities including Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Mole Valley District Council, Newport Pagnell Town Council, Wycombe District Council and Mid Sussex District Council are helping to shape local leisure provision.

Steve Philpott, Chief Executive of Places for People Leisure

CEO of ukactive, David Stalker commented: “Every year the quality of entrants just gets better and better. The Flame awards assessment process is known for being the most rigorous in the industry, so to just to make it into the list of finalists is a phenomenal achievement. To go home with the top prize in your category is the ultimate endorsement of hard work, dedication and excellence. The Flame awards winners are undeniably the best of the best and a credit to our sector.”
