Social Enterprise

Places for People Leisure (PfPL) is part of the Places for People Group which is a ‘not for dividend’ organisation and governed by an independent board of trustees. Therefore, there are no shareholders to distribute dividends or profits to. All surpluses generated are reinvested into the company to further its cause of ‘creating active places and healthy people’. In the Local Authority leisure management sector this type of structure is called a not for profit distributing organisation (NPDO) or a Social Enterprise.

Social Enterprises come in many shapes and sizes from large national and international businesses to small community based enterprises but they all:

  1. are businesses that aim to generate their income by selling goods and services, rather than through grants and donations.
  2. are set up to specifically make a difference to the communities they serve.
  3. reinvest the profits they make in furthering their social mission.

Our Social Enterprise objectives are:

  • to provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreational, sporting and other leisure time occupation for the general public in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving their quality of life;
