In 2016/17 Places for People Leisure raised over £350k for charity through various fundraising events from swim challenges, sponsored cycles and runs to raffles and donations.
Places for People Leisure work in partnership with organisations such as Cancer Research UK and HEART UK, the cholesterol charity to raise awareness and funds for national fundraising events such as Race for Life and National Cholesterol Month. We have supported HEART UK, the cholesterol charity since 2013 through the annual Cholesterol Challenge, raising £6k in 2016 and through the sale of pasta pots in our cafes.
Charlotte Hoare, Fundraising Manager, HEART UK comments, “We really value our partnership with Places for People Leisure. The centres are always so eager to get involved with National Cholesterol Month and really demonstrate that fundraising is fun with their ingenious ways of putting on events to raise money for us. Regular exercise is vital for keeping cholesterol levels at bay so our partnership is spot on as it encourages people to do a sporting challenge and think about their heart at the same time.”
Since 2007 Places for People Leisure have also been supporting Swimathon. Swimathon is the UK’s biggest swimming event that sees thousands of people taking the plunge at hundreds of pools around the country to raise money for charities such as Marie Curie Cancer Care and Sport Relief. The nationwide swimming challenge encourages swimmers up and down the UK to take part in a variety of distance events at their local pool. Challenges are designed to suit all levels of fitness, abilities and ages and participants can choose to take part as an individual or as part of a team. Places for People Leisure raised £169k in 2016 for Swimathon with 2,436 swimmers taking part in the event.
