Most of us have seen the ‘This Girl Can’ inspirational videos and images of women taking part in a wide range of activities and sports. If you haven’t, check out some of them below. But now you have made the decision to get more active where do you start?
We fully believe ‘This Girl Can’ so have put together this guide to the activities at our Centre that offer a great starting point to any girls who want to be more active. All of the activities have been selected by Helen our Group Exercise Co-ordinator, Personal Trainer and Exercise Referral specialist.
So once you have decided which session is best for you, give us a call on 01403 219200 to book your space. All of our instructors are friendly and helpful so just introduce yourself when you arrive and let them know it’s your first time so they can show you the ropes.
- Mondays 10.35am - 11.30am with Linda
- Thursdays 8.05am - 9.05am with Douglas
Pilates is a great starting point for any of our relaxation classes. Pilates will strengthen your body through controlled movements, is great for toning and is well known to help people suffering with back problems. The pace of this class is slow and allows you plenty of time to perfect each movement and get the most of the session.

- Thursdays 8.00pm - 8.45pm with Sarah
Zumba is the world famous dance class that is a real workout party! It’s fun and lively with great music and moves. Yes it requires a little co-ordination but the steps are pretty easy and within a few sessions you’ll be well on your way to being a Zumba pro.
- Mondays 6.00pm - 7.00pm with Coralie
People always say to us “no way, that’s too hard” but really this is a great class to start with as the speed and resistance is controlled by you, meaning you can make it as easy, or hard, as you like. 6.00pm - 6.15pm of this session is specially for new participants where Coralie will take you through how to set up the bikes and some basic technique. Within a few sessions you’ll be racing around like Laura Trott.
- Wednesdays 9.30am - 10.25am with Elaine
Body Pump is the world renowned strength class that helps you to lose weight and people are always keen to give it a go. We run a lot of classes across the week but the one we have identified here is a good place to start. In the 15 minutes before the main class (9.15am - 9.30am) Elaine will run you through what equipment to get out, what weights to start with and some technique to help you through your first class.
- Sundays 10.35am - 11.05am with Dean
A great starting point as its just 30 minutes long, it will be over before you know it! Easy to follow moves to challenge your core, great for tummy toning.
- Tuesdays 6.30pm - 7.30pm with Angela
- Thursdays 7.00pm - 8.00pm with Vicky
This world famous combination of Tai Chi, Yoga and Pilates will help to improve strength, balance and flexibility and finishes with a short relaxation session to help you unwind. Our instructors will guide you through all the routines with different options for different levels of ability to ensure that its always progressive. 6.15pm - 6.30pm on Tuesdays before the main class is a technique session where Angela will show you some of the more common moves.
Legs, Bums and Tums (LBT)

- Tuesdays 6.00pm - 6.55pm with Kat
This class has been going for years and is still as popular as ever. Workout all of those common problem areas for us girls in one class! Moves are easy to follow yet challenging and with regular attendance you'll quickly progress. There will be a combination of an aerobic workout with strength based exercises and of course a core section to work those abs.
So that’s our best advice for getting started. Don’t be put off trying our other classes, all of our instructors are used to new participants, so if you’d prefer a different class, go for it. Just let the instructor know that you are new so they can guide you in the first session and make sure you get the best experience on your first go.
